ARTHUR ERICKSON
Arthur Erickson Architectural Corporation
"It is an honour to participate in this Canadian legacy project." Imagine an Olympic
athlete winning gold medals around the world for almost 40 years - in the architectural
world, that's what Arthur Erickson, the first Canadian to receive a Gold medal from
the American Institute of Architects, has achieved. Arthur's name is synonymous
with Simon Fraser University, the Museum of Anthropology, Robson Square, Tacoma's
Museum of Glass, the Canadian Chancery in the Washington D.C., King Abdul Aziz ministry
headquarters in Jeddah, Roy Thompson Hall, expo pavilions and much more.
"Vitality is radiated from exceptional art and architecture," writes Arthur. "The
original goal of architecture is to ennoble the place and the people who use it.
Great buildings are unique, poetic, products of the heart, of sensibility and with
a freshness of view, which shows us the way and reminds us of our mission to inspire.
They are honest, simple and stirring."
"As Canadians, we have a responsibility to the world to create sustainable legacies
and to treasure citizens like Arthur Erickson who create them," says Bob Rennie.
NICK MILKOVICH

"It is an opportunity to attempt to do for our profession and our city what the
athelets will attempt to do for their disciplines: to push themselves to work at
the height of their abilities. If we in the architectural profession strive with
such commitment, Vancouver could become a city matching the splender of its natural
location." Most recently, principal Nick Milkovich has directed his firm in the
design of the RCMP Museum in Regina. The Erickson residential tower in Vancouver,
Weihai Civic and Cultural centre in China and the Evelyn Drive master plan in West
Vancouver. Nick Milkovich Architects is pleased to hold AIBC awards for Excellence

"What does it mean to participate in this project? It means an opportunity to create
a place to live that is truly reflective of our current time and our aspirations
for the future. It means an opportunity to participate in an exhilarating process
with like-minded players of similarly high-minded objectives. It means an opportunity
to measure our design decisions from a highly public perspective. It means a sense
of inclusion in an endeavour of great national pride and identity. It means I am
tired all the time." Stu guides the design operations of GBL, a 27-person architecture
